The Lesser Platinum is a
new mutation proven dominant by Ralph Davis, but the
genetics involved in this mutation are far more complex
then that of any other dominant mutation. Breeding a
lesser platinum to a normal royal python yields a clutch
of approximately 50% lesser platinum and 50% normals.
Yet, as Ralph Davis discovered when a lesser platinum
royal python is bred to one of its ‘normal’
siblings, Platinum’s are produced.
The lesser platinum is an
incredibly beautiful colour mutation that not only exhibiting
an array of colours including, hues of gold’s,
tans, browns and more. The lesser platinum exhibits
absolutely no black in its colouration, which in itself
should be enough for royal python fans to love this
mutation.
As if all of this isn’t
enough, in 2003 Ralph Davis produced 2.1 blue eyed leuicistic
royal pythons from two different clutches, by combining
the lesser platinum with the phantom mutation.
The Lesser Platinum/Platinum
project is ground level. Availability will be
limited for years to come. And once the genetics of
this mutation are completely understood its popularity
is only going to skyrocket!
db Reptiles was incredibly
fortunate to import the first lesser platinum in Europe
direct from Ralph Davis.
2004 UPDATE: Ralph
Davis hatched out five more blue eyed leucistics, this
time from breeding a platinum male to lesser platinum
females. More blue eyed leucistics have also been hatched
from breeding lesser platinum males to Mojave female.
