A snake or lizard will have decidedly different nutritional requirements then will a dog or cat. This being the case, it is essential that any reptile owner provide adequate reptile food. And of course, this food can vary depending on the specific type of reptile being kept as a pet.
Small lizards are most often fed small insects such as crickets, or other small creatures such as mealworms. Most quality pet stores will keep these items in stock, so they’re generally not hard to find. All one has to do is to put these live insects in the same space as the lizards, and they’ll do the rest.
For larger reptiles, larger reptile food will be required. Snakes are most often fed mice or rats, depending on the size of the snake. However, some snake breeds become large enough that larger prey animals such as rabbits must be used.
